Task 1. History and examination
Many parents feel “fobbed off” by
GPs, especially when the GP says, ‘It’s just a virus’. A good history
and examination, conducted prior to providing the parent with advice and
/ or reassurance, is an essential component of reassuring parents that
their child’s illness is being taken seriously.
The following video shows the start of a consultation and is an example of a doctor taking an appropriate history.
