Using the Booklet

Task 2. Introduce the booklet

• The study booklet is designed to be used within the consultation. It should help you to identify, and address the patient’s main concerns and their expectations. Please use it as a tool within the consultation, and not just as a ‘parting gift’.
• The patient (parent) is more likely to use the booklet if they feel that it is something new and unique, and that you endorse it. When introducing the booklet, try and be positive about it.
• You could describe it as ‘new’ or ‘novel’ or you could mention that it has been developed through consultation with parents, GPs and paediatricians, or you could say that it is based upon the latest medical research.
• The following clip will give an example of ‘introducing the booklet’.
